Walk and Talk Therapy

I love being in nature! Not only do I find it calming and serene, but it helps me to focus on the present (instead of getting caught up in unhelpful thinking). My time in nature has brought me clarity, a sense of awe and a greater connection to the world around me.

I have decided to offer walk and talk therapy outside in nature as part of my services. I am really excited to be able to share my passion with clients. You might be wondering how walk and talk therapy works. It is essentially the same as seeing me in my consulting room or online via Zoom, except we conduct our session outside in nature. You might like to think of nature as your co-therapist.

As we conduct our walk and talk therapy, you set the pace, decide which direction to take, and where you might like to stop and take in your surroundings. Along the way, I use evidenced based therapies such as acceptance and commitment therapy, schema therapy and mindfulness. Nature itself provides so many opportunities for reflection, metaphor and incidental prompts (eg. the weather can be akin to our internal emotional world, sunny and bright one day, raining and miserable on another).

Walk and talk therapy might be beneficial for people who prefer a less ‘clinical’ setting, have difficulty sitting still for an hour or feel uncomfortable with prolonged eye contact. The session can be suited to your mobility and health needs. If you prefer to sit rather than walk or need flat, paved surfaces, we can discuss appropriate locations.
